  1. Mrs Gallagher taught in a hedge school in Chapel Street, Crossmolina. Miss Barrett's house was utilized for a school house. She had thirty pupils every day. These were not taught Irish but arithmetic, reading, and writing were the principal studies taught.
Mrs. Gallagher sometimes went from one village to another and spent a fortnight in each village.
Mr. Pat Hickson my grand-uncle was one of her pupils in Crossmolina.
